About Me

My name is Alex Alvarez, I'm a Dominican-American cooking enthusiast who loves craft and artisanal products. I've recently moved to Vermont after living in New York City for the last 6 years and have had the pleasure of being immersed in the incredible food and beverage culture that's offered there and around the world.

In this blog you'll find my notes, pictures and thoughts of my daily cooking. It's mostly designed for my own reference, but I don't think there's any harm in sharing it out in public. I take great pride in creating and sharing, and strive to learn as much as possible about the foods I'm making in order to respect the ingredients, recipes and traditions surrounding them. Sample any given day in my life and you'll likely find me making a hot mess in the kitchen. I like to make things from scratch not limited to but including – pastas, breads, vinegars and other ferments, spice mixes and pastes, and then use them going forwards. I've recently gotten into cheese and sausage-making, so I will also publish my notes on these endeavors.

I wholeheartedly believe when you understand your ingredients, why they exist, how to use them, the world is opened up to you to be creative and healthy with what you make and consume. At the end of the day, nothing is better than enjoying whatever you want, however you want it and in good company. As such, I challenge you to follow my journey and make it your own.
